The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program includes 2 years of Basic Medical Sciences and 3 years of Clinical Sciences.
Early in the course, students are trained in Personal and Professional Development (PPD) and Early Clinical Exposure (ECE). Students are also given the opportunity to take clinical electives overseas. For their Inter-Professional Education (IPE) modules, we encourage students to take on basic research and collaborative learning with students of Pharmacy and the Allied Health Sciences.
The program also includes modules on Ethics and Medical Jurisprudence, Radiology, and Community Medicine.

In the 3rd year, students develop basic clinical skills and knowledge. The 4th year introduces them to different specialties in medicine and, in the final year, students focus on consolidating clinical skills with knowledge.
The MBBS program is designed on an outcome-based curriculum and is updated to incorporate the latest teaching and learning methodologies. The modules are delivered in small groups through case studies as well as seminars and group discussions.
Students are taught Basic Medical Sciences through interactive classes, problem-based learning, group discussions, and sessions in practical and clinical labs.
From the 3rd year onwards, Clinical Training is mainly conducted in hospitals. This includes wards, clinics, daycare units, outpatient facilities, health clinics, health departments and support departments such as rehabilitation and physiotherapy. Students learn through bedside teaching, clinical skills lab teaching, case presentations, perceptions, task-based learning, home visits, field visits, and seminars. The clinical skills lab on campus provides a controlled environment for training that encompasses psychomotor, affective, and cognitive domains.
At IMS, we place emphasis not just on medical skills but on clinical communication skills as well. Students are introduced to community care facilities and hospitals that give them an understanding of various case scenarios and conditions.
Through this methodology, our aim is to develop medical professionals who not only excel academically, but are also sensitive to the society we live in.
Apart from academics, students get to engage in special courses such as the Graduate Employability Skills (GEMS) and Personal Enrichment Competency (PEC) programs.
Through these courses, students learn the much-required soft skills that help them become well-rounded professionals of the future. These courses build character, humaneness, and team spirit — all essential skills in healthcare.

In Clinical Sciences, we get to examine the patient and observe procedures with the patient’s consent. Under the guidance of highly-experienced consultants, we are allowed to scrub and enter the OT to observe.
